So the basic idea is I'm taking shoot'em ups like Galaga, Smash TV, Mercs, and combining elements from each.
For example it'll be vertical scrolling like Galaga, but have human characters that shoot like Mercs, but have 360 controls kinda like Geometry Wars. So it's basically a dual analog game, but you only have left-right movement (as you vertically move upwards automatically), and 180 degrees in front of you to shoot.
So with the gameplay explained, some of the ideas I had involving this is... You can stop crouch at anytime, stopping the vertical movement, but cannot move from side-to-side. When you're scrolling and hit an opstacle however, such as a car in the road, or a tree in the forest, you can move side-to-side as long as the object is in front of you. Either way, when crouched, bullets will be stopped my obstacles. If you get back up, the bullets will pass over it. The same rule applies to AI enemies.
I am not sure what the story or theme will be, I am thinking post-apocolypse maybe? Each level will have a different theme, level 1 will be a highway, others could be a forest, a mansion, etc. All levels will have a final boss, the idea is each one will be a reference to something, such as the first levels boss might be a duck, that when defeated, the duck hunt dog will come up and laugh. Thinking that the last boss might be a big robot, with a human controlling it, like a Metal Gear and after to defeat it, you will hand to hand fight the dude.
The look of the game isn't decided yet either, but I was thinking 16-bit like graphics.
So this is just what I have in my mind so far. I will be starting the development of this VERY soon. And would like to hear your input & ideas if you have some!
